Enable 64-bit Mode
PCMTEC supports 64-bit mode when using the OBDX cable, which provides significant performance improvements over 32-bit mode.
Requirements for 64-bit Mode
You need an OBDX FT cable to use 64-bit mode functionality for flashing vehicles directly. However you can use 64 bit mode without flashing for normal usage and switch between the two modes via the guide linked here:
To run permanently in 64 bit mode first purchase a supported 64 bit cable such as the OBDX FT as listed here:
Installation Steps
-
Install OBDX Driver
- Download and run the OBDX Driver update executable
-
Install OBDX Pro Scantool Firmware
- Download and run the OBDX Pro Scantool Firmware Installer executable
- Run the software with your cable plugged into the PC
- Check for updates within the software
- Ensure you have the latest firmware version installed
Switch to 64-bit Mode
- Open PCMTEC software options/settings
- By default the software will launch in 64 bit mode with the OBDX driver installed however if you need to change or it does not.
- Select options -> Tactrix/Mongoose compatibility (32-bit Editor)
- Uncheck the 32-bit mode option to enable 64-bit mode
This configuration change should improve the Editor performance dramatically.
General tips
- Close the datalogger if you are not using it.
- Restart the editor daily.
- If you are flashing/editing/flashing/editing repeatedly in 32 bit mode. We highly recommend saving your files and closing the datalogger periodically.
- If you are using a 32 bit cable consider creating a 64 bit shortcut for when you are not flashing vehicles as per this guide here:
Limitations
The software currently uses .NET 4.7/4.8 because most hardware driver DLLs do not support 64-bit operation and would require extensive work to function in newer .NET applications, this is on our roadmap however. In the mean time running in 64-bit mode with compatible hardware (OBDX cable) provides significant performance benefits.
